Shodan Diploma presentation.
Wednesday 17th May 2017
Rod being presented with his recently achieved Shodan grade Diploma. Rod first trained at Portchester Karate Club in the mid 80's and then like so many younger people felt the need to have a break and concentrate on exams, work etc. After a break of some 27 years Rod returned to his home Dojo to resume his study of Shotokan Karate. There are many former Karate students who would like to resume their practice and study of Karate. As Rod has demonstrated "Karate is for everyone". It is true that some people will have to practice their techniques in a modified manner to allow for injuries etc. However the spirit of traditional Karate practice and study is in the personal effort and understanding, not the athletic ability. There are many first class clubs eager to help "returning" students. As Rod said last night "returning to Karate has, amongst other things, improved his physical fitness and mental attitude. He is now seriously thinking of entering the veterans section of the various competitions. Who knows, possibly even entering the SKDUN World Championships in Hungary later in the year. Picture is of the Wednesday 2nd class.
