There was an excellent attendance for the first Kata Focus Class of 2013.

The class consisted of twenty one students (normally restricted to 16) representing six clubs from Bournemouth to Bognor Regis and the Kata for the class was Kanku Sho. This is a popular choice for prospective 2nd Dans and with its jumps a good choice of Competition kata to impress the judges.

Sensei O'Donnell led the students through the Kata and various applications, with particular attention to the attacks being of a surprise nature and usually  from the side. Having performed the chosen kata combination in this more realistic manner, with attackers, a good number of times, the attackers were then encouraged to attack before the defender was ready. Inevitable the techniques lost much of their "neatness" but became "effective".
