Richard and his 4.2 knot Sailing challenge.

Sensei Merv passes on his sailing skills to Richard.

Having recently passed his Yachtmaster "theory exam" Sensei Merv has been searching for an opportunity to practice the practical skills in yacht sailing.

Richard, an enthusiastic Brown belt in the club, found the solution and arranged an introduction to a yacht owner searching for crew members. The first attempt at a day's sailing had to be called off due to bad weather but on Tuesday the 22nd May the weather was perfect for a day out on the Solent. Or as the Yacht owner, Steve, said "how about going to Cowes on the Isle of Wight, for Fish and Chips?

The boat, 29 foot in length.

Richard made the coffee but got the mugs the wrong way round. He is offering me the "cabin boy mug".

Richard ready to go.

Excellent fish and chips in Cowes. Unfortunately Richard forgot the camera.

A heavy lunch and the effects are clear.

Sensei at the Helm.

Richard Learning a new skill.

Almost home.

As cabin boy, Richard was responsible for tidying up the cabin.

It was a perfect day's sailing and the owner Steve, was fantastic in trusting us, the crew, to get on and get fully involved with all aspects of the boats workings. the one disappointment for Richard was that he could not quite get up to the days fastest sailing speed of 4.2 Knots. However we promised not to say anything about that so nothing can be mentioned here. Why not ask Richard?
